Description

The NGC 4631 Group is a poorly defined group of galaxies, about 25 million light-years from Earth in the Coma Berenices and Canes Venatici constellations. It is one of many that lie within the Virgo Supercluster.

Members of the group are a spiral galaxy NGC 4631 (Whale Galaxy), brightest galaxy in the group, interacting galaxies NGC 4656 and NGC 4657 (Hockey Stick Galaxies), and dwarf elliptical galaxy NGC 4627, which is a companion of NGC 4631.

I imaged this galaxy a while ago and forgot to take flats, which worked for the RGB filters, but the L filer was not salvageable. I processed the RGB data and was pleased with the results, so here is the outcome. This target was also one of the earliest ones I imaged when I started this hobby, with a DSLR and a newt that didn't turn out to be AP oriented.
